The Beginning and End of Sookie Stackhouse
How far into the thirteenth Stackhouse novel are you?
Zero! [Laughs.] That’s my next project. When I get home I have to go over the copy-edited pages of Sookie 12, which will be out in May. That will freshen up my memory about what I need to do in Sookie 13, to tie everything together. A seemingly impossible task.
I’m sure you’ve been asked this before, but could you talk about what the twelfth novel will involve?
It’s called Deadlocked. It’s another extension of her adventures, moving a step forward to resolve many of the issues that are brought up in previous books. She gets kidnapped – you know, the usual mayhem. She gets kidnapped, she has to get out of it. The Fey entry into her life is pretty much wrapped up. She learns a lot more about everything really. She learns a lot in this book, the truth. So it was a challenging book to write, and I tried to keep it on track more as a mystery. But there are just so many loose ends to tie up, it’s just incredible. [Laughs.]
“Eric’s Corvette could go pretty damn fast, and Eric wasn’t exactly sticking to the speed limit on the interstate. I wasn’t awfully surprised when I saw the blinking lights coming up behind us. I was only astonished the cop car could catch up with Eric….Eric cursed in a language that probably hadn’t been spoken out loud in centuries. But even the sheriff of Area Five has to obey human laws these days, or at least he has to pretend to. Eric pulled over to the shoulder.“With a vanity plate like BLDSKR, what do you expect?” I asked, not so secretly enjoying the moment.”

Charlaine Harris‘ Sookie Stackhouse mystery series, is now looking ahead to the conclusion of her long-running saga.
“Truthfully, the next two books will probably be the last two books in the series,” Harris said last week. “I still love Sookie, but I’m beginning to want to write something else, and Sookie’s kind of taken over my life. I was able to write other things for the first few years I was involved in Sookie, but then after the start of the television show she took over so much of my time because of my increased publicity obligations that it’s been very hard to write other things, and I really need to do that.”

Sookie Stackhouse Book 11 Titled DEAD RECKONING
Harris recently updated her Facebook page with some information about Sookie Stackhouse Book 11, which she says is tentatively titled Dead Reckoning. On August 28th, she wrote “This weekend I’m finishing the editorial changes on Dead Reckoning, the next Sookie Stackhouse novel, which will be out on May.”

San Diego Comic-Con 2010: True Blood Writer Charlaine Harris Discusses What’s Coming Up Next!

- Harris was surprised to receive the Comic-Con Inkpot Award for excellence in fantasy and sci-fi writing.
- She is under contract for three more Sookie Stackhouse books, the next coming in May as usual.
- On the first Tuesday in August the short story “Death’s Excellent Vacation”, featuring Sookie, Pam, and a stripper pole, is being released.
